WAFC Appoints New Leadership

The Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC) has appointed new leadership at its July board of directors meeting, due to the July 23 retirement of WAFC President and Chairmwoman Donna Giordano, division president of Compton, Calif.-based Ralphs Grocery Co., a division of the Kroger Co.

Ralphs announced Giordano's retirement last month. She was succeeded by VP of Merchandising Valerie Jabbar.

Taking Giordano’s place as president and chair is current VP Kevin Curry, who is SVP sales, merchandising and distribution with West Sacramento, Calif.-based Raley’s. Replacing him as VP is Treasurer Mike Stigers, who is EVP, wholesale and supply chain services with Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Supervalu, and replacing Stigers as treasurer is Secretary Dennis McIntyre, who is EVP, marketing at San Bernardino, Calif.-based Stater Bros. Markets. Sarah Wehling, who is VP, general business manager at Issaquah, Wash.-based Costco Wholesale Corp., joins as secretary.

“We are so appreciative of Donna’s leadership while serving as an active WAFC board member and officer,” Curry said. “As an advocate for advanced education, she has truly made a difference in the lives of her associates and the grocery industry. We wish her much happiness in her retirement.”

Added Curry: “It is a pleasure to welcome Sarah Wehling of Costco to our officer ranks. Sarah’s energy and passion for education makes her a perfect selection to further the success of WAFC’s education initiatives.”

Established in 1921 and based in Lakewood, Calif., the WAFC provides educational opportunities for food industry associates.
