Representing a new wine style created to meet greater consumer demand for better-for-you items, So’Light low-calorie/low-alcohol wines from Les Domaines Auriol in France aim to introduce new wine drinkers to the pleasures of the grape while offering more experienced aficionados a quality product that meets their diet and health requirements. All three of the wines — Red, White and Rosé — contain only 85 calories per 5-ounce glass, about the same as a serving of sugar-free yogurt. Developed by the French Wine Research Center and imported exclusively by Boca Raton, Fla.-based Luxe Vintages, the new wine employs a new distilling process that lowers the regular alcohol content of wine from 13 percent to 10 percent.
