Village Supermarket Grows Profits in Q2
SPRINGFIELD, N.J. -- Village Super Market Inc.'s (VLGEA) second-quarter earnings rose slightly, which the company attributed to improved sales and gross profit percentages.
For the quarter ended Jan. 28, the 24-store Shoprite operator's net income rose to $4.45 million, or $1.38 a share, from $4.36 million, or $1.37 a share, in the year-ago period.
The company noted its year-earlier profit included income of $890,000 received from a partnership.
Sales for the quarter rose 4 percent to $266 million from $256 million a year earlier.
