Utah Grocers Donate $85K to Food Banks

Grocery stores throughout Utah banded together to donate $85,000 worth of food to the Utah Food Bank. The 42 stores are part of Associated Retail Operations, and include Macey’s, Dan’s Market, Dick’s Market, Lin’s Market and Fresh Market banners.

The Season to Share Fundraiser collected money from customers at checkout lines. One in five children in the state struggle with hunger and the stores donated mostly child-friendly foods like peanut butter, macaroni and cheese and tuna.

“As a parent, I can only imagine what those parents are going through and the thoughts in their mind that potentially their child could go to bed hungry, and I hope that we help them have an easier night’s rest knowing that we’re helping to supply the food pantries that help make meals possible for their children,” said Sarah Petit from Associated Retail Operations, in a report published by Salt Lake City’s Fox 13.
