United Supermarkets Attacking Shrink with Fresh Item Management Systems
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Regional retailer United Supermarkets here has licensed two fresh item management software systems from Tampa, Fla.-based ADC Inc. to better manage its perishables departments.
ADC said the chain licensed its P-Cubed Perishable Production Planning system for forecasting and inventory management. It also licensed NutriGen, ADC's recipe management software, and InterScale, ADC’s scales management software.
"United Supermarkets told us they wanted systems that would increase their fresh market management capability in all departments, from bakery to deli to meats and produce," said Stephen Loveridge, ADC's president, in a statement.
Sanjaya Nath, United Supermarkets' enterprise architect, said his company was attracted to the ADC systems' thin-client wireless handheld Web-browser and scanner capability at stores with good performance connecting to the central server, and ADC's ability to provide a central repository for fresh item data.
"P-Cubed has given us increased visibility of throw-aways and markdowns generated at our stores on an item level basis, and it has allowed us to review and adjust our production levels to reduce shrink," Nath said. "P-Cubed has also provided data to monitor lost sales opportunities at the item/category level, and has given us the ability to conduct monthly physical inventories in our fresh departments."
ADC said its P-Cubed product offers forecasting and perpetual inventory management for perishables that aim to reduce guesswork and increase employee efficiency, resulting in a significant reduction in shrink and a measurable increase in employee efficiency.
NutriGen allows for the central management of recipes, combining such vendor-supplied sub-assemblies as cake base with a store's own raw materials, such as frosting and decoration. It generates produced item costing, margin, and suggested retail pricing with FDA-compliant ingredient and nutrifact data, automatically updating in-store scales and printers throughout the company-wide scales management system.
United has also rolled out ADC's InterScale application to manage recent trans fat and allergen labeling requirements. InterScale's seamless integration into P-Cubed allows for obtaining scale totals for production planning, according to ADC.
United Supermarkets operates 47 stores in 26 Texas cities.
