United Opens Convenience Store in Amarillo

United Supermarkets has opened a freestanding United Express convenience store near the site of its newest United Supermarket location, which is slated to open on March 5.

The Amarillo location is the company’s eighth 2,400-square-foot convenience store under the United Express banner. The company also operates 19 other United Express fuel kiosks at its supermarket locations.

“Whether it’s grabbing a hot latté in the morning, or a bag of ice and gallon of milk on the way home, our Amarillo guests are truly going to enjoy the drive-thru experience,” said Tandy Arrant, convenience business manager for United.

The new location features a drive-thru window offering specialty coffee and tea service using the company’s own popular Arriba brand. A full line of made-to-order coffees and tea – including lattés, smoothies and frappes – is available both inside the store and via the drive-thru.

The convenience store also includes a six-pump fuel station offering both gasoline and diesel. In addition to traditional convenience items – such as fountain drinks, grab-and-go packaged food and propane tank refills -- it also offers a wide assortment of “fresh to-go” items made inside the main store, including breakfast burritos and hot sandwiches, along with fresh fruit, milkshakes and other frozen beverages.

Lubbock, Texas-based United Supermarkets operates 58 stores under four unique brands: United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigos and United Express, along with subsidiary operations R.C. Taylor Distributing, Praters and Llano Logistics. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Albertson’s LLC.
