United Fresh to Host Former Ag Secs’ Election Discussion

Two former Secretaries of Agriculture, one Republican and one Democrat, will discuss the candidates running for president at this year’s United Fresh Washington Conference, slated for Sept. 12-14 in the nation’s capital.

Reagan Administration USDA Secretary Jack Block will speak in favor of Donald Trump’s election, while Clinton Administration USDA Secretary Dan Glickman will advocate for another Clinton as president, this time Hillary. United Fresh President and CEO Tom Stenzel will moderate the discussion, which is scheduled to take place during the general breakfast session on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

“Our industry has had great respect for both Secretary Block and Secretary Glickman,” Stenzel said. “Both of these gentlemen were strong leaders for all of agriculture, and forged many bipartisan agreements in past Farm Bills and as well as addressing other issues. With today’s polarizing campaigns splitting the country, I’m going to be asking each of them how agriculture can bridge the divide, and why they feel their candidate is the best choice for the job.”

The conference brings together attendees and key members of Congress, their staffers and top regulatory officials, as well as featuring the Rising Leaders Program for up-and-coming industry employees. Those interested in attending can register online.

Based in Washington, D.C., the United Fresh Produce Association unites companies across every segment of the fresh produce supply chain, including growers, shippers, fresh-cut processors, wholesalers, distributors, retailers, foodservice operators, industry suppliers and allied associations.
