UK's J Sainsbury Sees Sales Growth Continue

LONDON - J Sainsbury, the UK's second largest supermarket, said on Wednesday that strong sales growth seen earlier this year had continued. The Financial Times reported that Sainsbury's same-store sales, excluding gasoline, rose 6 percent in the 16 weeks to October 13, in line with the first quarter. Total sales were 7.7 percent higher, compared with 8.6 percent in the first three months.

The company's U.S. grocery business, Shaws, gained 9.4 percent in total sales, with same-store sales growth of 6 percent.

Sir Peter Davis, Sainsbury chief executive, said: "We haven't seen any slowdown yet, and these are the most recent figures in the market.
