UFCW Local Welcomes Return of Farmer Jack's 'Savings Time' Program

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. -- United Food & Commercial Workers Local 876 said it supports Farmer Jack's decision last month to resurrect its price-cutting strategy program, "Savings Time."

The chain has dropped the campaign, which was tied to a loyalty program, along with its ubiquitous jingle in 2002, in favor of a message about down-to-earth goodness via service and fresh foods.

The local said the campaign should help Farmer Jack's efforts to achieve profitability and to maintain union members' jobs, which the union said "are a dual commitment between company and union membership."

Last year, the membership ratified the 2005 contract which ultimately saved not only thousands of Michigan jobs, but protected the benefits, pensions, retirement, seniority and health care benefits of each member and their families, the local said.

Farmer Jack resuscitated the dormant Bonus Savings Club program, with reduced prices on more than 3,600 items via use of a loyalty card, on April 1. The chain operates 67 stores in Michigan.
