Trump Fires Up Procter & Gamble's Newest Toothpaste

CINCINNATI - Donald Trump didn't fire the latest guest on his "The Apprentice" television show. On the contrary, he seems to have fired up Procter & Gamble's new Crest Refreshing Vanilla Mint toothpaste after the product made its debut on the reality show last week. Procter & Gamble Co., based here, said it logged 4.7 million hits to the product's Web site after the show.

That's the highest level of online interest in a single product launch in P&G history, the company said in a statement.

P&G said Web traffic spiked immediately after the show aired, with more than 800,000 hits in two hours. Web visitors requested more than 40,000 product samples, and more than 20,000 applicants submitted entries to an online sweepstakes for a trip to the show's finale in New York City. The contest is still ongoing, and entries will be taken until Oct. 15.

The new flavor of Crest is part of the brand's Whitening Expressions line. It comes in both paste and gel, and retails nationwide for a suggested $2.99 a tube.
