Tree of Life Names Covington New President/C.E.O.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Alec C. Covington has been named president and c.e.o. of Tree of Life, Inc., the nation's largest natural and specialty foods distributor.

In his new post, Covington will serve as an executive board member responsible for all North American activities of the wholly owned subsidiary of Dutch company Koninklijke Wessanen's U.S. group.

Most recently Covington served as c.e.o. of Atlanta-based Americold Logistics, LLC, a third-party provider of temperature-controlled supply-chain solutions in the consumer packaged goods industry. Prior to that, he held senior-level positions with Supervalu and the former Richfood.

Calling Covington "the right person to take the company to the next level," Ad Veenhof, c.e.o. of Wessanen, said Covington's appointment signals good news for Tree of Life in view of "the challenges our North American organization is currently facing."

Covington will succeed Rick Thorne, who announced his retirement after a 20-plus year career at Tree of Life, seven of which were spent as a member of Wessanen's executive board.
