In Top-level Shuffle, Ahold’s U.S. Chains Get New Leadership

Ahold said yesterday it has made major changes to its corporate and operating company leadership, including at its American interests.

The Netherlands-based company said Ahold USA’s c.o.o., Lawrence Benjamin, has been nominated by the supervisory board for appointment to the Ahold corporate executive board. His appointment will be proposed at the next general meeting of shareholders.

"Larry will strengthen the corporate executive board, and his nomination underscores the importance of the U.S. market to Ahold," noted Ahold c.e.o. John Rishton. "These appointments will help accelerate the transfer of knowledge across our businesses. We have chosen to make these changes as the Value Improvement Program expands beyond price repositioning. At Ahold, our global strategic focus continues to be the transformation of all of our banners into powerful consumer brands."

In other changes, Carl Schlicker, who is the current Giant-Carlisle president and c.e.o., becomes president and c.e.o. of Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover, replacing José Alvarez, who assumes the role of e.v.p. global business development, reporting to Rishton.

Sander van der Laan, current Albert Heijn e.v.p. marketing and merchandising, becomes president and c.e.o. of Giant-Carlisle, replacing Schlicker. Both Schlicker and van der Laan will report to Benjamin, the company said.

In still more changes, Albert Voogd, current Albert Heijn e.v.p. sales and services, becomes e.v.p. marketing and merchandising at the company, replacing van der Laan; and Cees van Vliet, who currently handles format management at Albert Heijn, succeeds Voogd. Both will report to Ahold Europe c.o.o. Dick Boer.
