Sensor-based beverage container recycling tech company TOMRA's comprehensive reverse-vending machine (RVM) loyalty program, which rewards consumers for recycling and also turns RVMs into a charitable fundraising platform, is launching in 35 Meijer stores in Michigan this fall, and will begin gradually rolling out to more retailers in Michigan and the Northeast. Rollout across the more than 50 retailers who host TOMRA RVMs is subject to retailer participation.
TOMRA Makes Change (TMC) allows RVM redeemers to earn points toward prizes such as earbuds, fitness trackers and gift cards, or donate them to various TMC charitable partners.
“TOMRA Makes Change is part of a national vision we have to combine environmental consciousness with other good works,” said Ryan Lee, the company’s director of strategy and sales for commercial software – reverse vending. “Michigan’s progressive stance on bottle recycling makes it the logical choice for the launch of this initiative.”
TMC account holders earn one point for each container recycled, with 250 points equaling a $5 charitable donation. In addition to donating points to TMC-affiliated organizations, retailers can use the loyalty program to set up fundraising efforts for local organizations such as scout troops, marching bands or soccer teams, and with which TOMRA can help the organization.
The TOMRA ReAct app can be downloaded from the iOS or Android app stores. Consumers can also learn more online about how the program works and see their donation options on their rewards page.
