Three 99 Cents Only Stores To Open With A Bang This Week

COMMERCE, Calif. – The first 99 customers at the three new 99 Cents Only Stores opening Thurday in Texas and Nevada will walk away with incredible bargains as part of the chain's Grand Opening celebration.

The three new units, located in Las Vegas and Euless and Plano, Tex., will bring the number of new 99 Cents Only Stores opened in 2004 up to 28.

The openings are part of an aggressive growth plan aimed at bringing the chain's total store count by year’s end to more than 230. "The Company plans to open a total of nine to 10 stores in the third quarter and currently has 12 to 15 stores scheduled for the fourth quarter," said 99 Cents Only president Eric Schiffer, during an earnings call last month. "Planned fourth quarter stores include three to four in Texas, bringing the end of the year Texas store count to 36 to 37 and total company store count to 230 to 233."

For the grand opening celebrations, the new stores, ranging from 23,000 to 25,000 square feet, will sell Sharp 19-inch Color TVs for only 99 cents to the first nine customers, and scooters to the next 99 customers.

The next 199 customers can buy genuine leather At-A-Glance Day Planner with calculator, a $60 value, for 99 cents. The next 99 customers can buy a $25 NFL team sport watch for the same discounted price. On each of the following days through Wednesday, Sept. 8, the stores will feature similar deep bargains in an effort to build traffic.

The chain ran similar promotions for store openings in Ventura, Calif. earlier this month and at a Dallas store in July.
