Tesco Centralizes Photo Operations with New Software
LONDON -- In an effort to increase the efficiency of its photo operations, Tesco yesterday began to install software that will allow it to manage and control its digital and film photo operations centrally.
The system, called Print Manager Scheduler from digital photo solutions provider Pixology, plc, will allow Tesco customers to order their prints online from Tescophoto.com, the retailer's dedicated photo Web site, and pick them up from selected stores on the same day.
"With the massive growth in digital camera sales and mobile camera phones we wanted to offer our customers a complete imaging service," said Andrew Clarke, commercial operations manager for photo processing. "The launch of Tescophoto.com will allow us to offer a full range of printing services to our customers at competitive prices. Our customers will now be able to get real photographs from their digital images from the comfort of their own home. The online photo service allows us to build a fully integrated Imaging service for the future."
This service will start to rollout across all Tesco minilabs during 2006. For those Tesco stores without a minilab, Pixology will supply its Kioskprint software to support the rollout of free-standing kiosks. Tesco customers will be able to print their digital photographs in-store instantly, order photos for store pickup, or have them delivered for mail. Other photo services such as photo gifts -- for example greeting cards and calendars -- will also be available.
Pixology currently provides the software used to power the retailer's in-store photo kiosks at over 250 stores, as well as powering Tesco's online photo processing service.
