Following months of negotiation, members of Teamsters Local 118 who work in the general merchandise warehouse operated by Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans Food Markets in its hometown have overwhelmingly ratified a new five-year agreement, according to the union.
The ratified agreement, is separate from a grocery and transportation agreement scheduled for renegotiation next year, provides for wage increases of 16.5 percent over the contract term, and higher night-shift differentials, as well as a $500 ratification bonus. Further, the new contract improves language in regard to job bidding, vacations, rules and regulations, among other areas.
"We are very pleased with the progress made in many areas of this new agreement,” said Local 118 Business Agent Paul Hogle. “Reaching this five-year deal with the company underscores the company commitment to maintain general merchandise warehouse operations in the Rochester area.”
Local 118 represents about 4,300 members throughout the greater Rochester area.
Wegmans ranked 14th in Progressive Grocer’s 2018 Super 50 list of top grocers in the United States.
