'Taste of NFL' Cooks For Second Harvest
CHICAGO -- For the 15th year, the Taste of the NFL did its part to raise much-needed funds for hunger-relief efforts on behalf of Second Harvest, based here, as part of Super Bowl XL festivities.
The recipe for the success of the event, which was held last Saturday, on the eve of the Super Bowl, combined a top chef representing each of the 32 NFL teams with an alumnus or current NFL player to serve up a signature dish, sign autographs, and mingle with the crowd of more than 3,000 guests.
Since its founding in 1992, Taste of the NFL has raised more than $5.7 million for America's Second Harvest -- The Nation's Food Bank Network and other hunger-related charities. It has become one of the premier events of Super Bowl weekend.
Also known as "The Party With A Purpose," the event raises money for hunger-relief charities that provide food to millions of Americans at risk of hunger. Funds raised are distributed to food bank members of America's Second Harvest in each NFL city, as well as other hunger-relief agencies.
Chef Tony Hanslits of 14 West, Indianapolis, was among the celebrity chefs from around the country on hand for the event, at which he served 2,000 portions of Maple Leaf Farms' Duck Satay.
For the ninth year, Gallo of Sonoma Winery served the "Preferred Wines of Taste of the NFL" at the event.
Tickets for the Taste of NFL, which was held at Rock Financial Showplace in Novi, Mich., ranged from $400 to $6,000.
