Target to Introduce Chic Philippe Starck Collection
MINNEAPOLIS - Philippe Starck has collaborated with Target Stores to present Starck Reality, a new collection of more than 50 everyday consumer products jazzed up with modern design.
Set to debut on Target shelves nationwide in May 2002, the line includes baby monitors, magazine racks, letter sorters, tape dispensers, bathroom scales, and even a child's pop-up playhouse and portable home furniture.
Starck Reality comprises products from five major categories: home, office, kitchen, bath, and baby. The merchandise is exclusive to Target and reflects the designer's long-held belief in elevating the joy that can be found in simple things. The launch of Starck Reality takes place at the Milan Furniture Fair, the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, April 10-15. This marks one of the first times that an American retailer has maintained a presence in Milan at one of the world's most prestigious design fairs.
"Philippe Starck has an unrivaled ability to invent, and to offer totally original design on all levels," said Kathee Tesija, senior vice president of merchandising for Target. "Starck Reality is a new way for Target to deliver a consistent, exhilarating flow of fresh ideas to our guests."
As Starck himself sees it, "Working with Target has helped me to fulfill a dream that I've held all my life. My goal in this democratization of design is to make possible the most joyful and exciting things and experiences for the maximum number of people. Today, we don't need more design, more pretensions -- we need more happiness and more magic available to everyone."
