Supervalu Selects Oracle for HR, Finance Enterprise Platform

Supervalu has selected Oracle Cloud as the new technology platform for its integrated portfolio of enterprise human resources and finance functions.

The wholesaler/retailer will phase in the new Oracle Cloud offerings across three key parts of its business: internal administration of the wholesale distribution and retail grocery businesses, and in services that the company provides externally to its customers.

“We have a terrific opportunity to deliver more professional services and back-end support to our existing wholesale customers, as well as leverage our scale and expertise to reach new customers,” said Randy Burdick, EVP/CIO for Minneapolis-based Supervalu. “The Oracle Cloud provides us with a more robust infrastructure and a comprehensive solution that we believe will help us drive increased efficiencies, speed decision-making and enhance the overall customer experience.”

Supervalu will initially implement Oracle's ERP and HCM Clouds, both of which are part of a broad suite of the provider's applications that are integrated with social, mobile and analytic capabilities to result in improved process integration and more complete and impactful reporting.

The selection of Oracle Cloud will provide Supervalu "with a complete set of enterprise-grade cloud applications, offering both breadth and depth of functionality,” said Rondy Ng, SVP of applications development at Redwood Shores, Calif.-based Oracle. “Our integrated ERP and HCM cloud solutions are uniquely placed to cater to today’s changing business environment and enable our customers to modernize back-office operations and empower their people.”

The solutions will enhance Supervalu's user experience with a simple, scalable and intuitive design that can be delivered to users on desktop, tablet and mobile applications. The company will also use Oracle HCM Cloud’s suite of talent and workforce management offerings to provide an engaging and collaborative HR experience to find and retain employees.

As one of the largest grocery wholesalers and retailers in the United States, with annual sales of approximately $18 billion, Supervalu serves a network of 3,588 stores composed of 1,796 independent stores serviced primarily by its food distribution business; 1,360 Save-A-Lot stores, of which 897 are operated by licensee owners; and 200 traditional retail grocery stores.
