Supervalu Said Closing Warehouse in Lehigh Valley, Pa.

MINNEAPOLIS - A pet supply distributor will reportedly take over a warehouse facility in suburban Allentown, Pa. from Supervalu later this year, which the wholesaler said earlier this month it would shutter by March 1.

Supervalu's closing will affect roughly 125 employees, according to a local press report, some of which may be offered jobs with the facility's soon-to-be new occupant, Phillips Feed and Pet Supply, which bought the building in November.

Supervalu said last year it planned to shut down the warehouse within three years, which it acquired in 1994 when it bought the now defunct Laneco supermarket chain. The company said it plans to consolidate operations into a large warehouse facility in Denver, Pa., just outside of Lancaster, a Supervalu spokeswoman was quoted as saying.
