Supervalu-owned Albertsons Keeps Self Check-outs
Supervalu Inc. is not removing self check-out lanes from the 460 Albertsons stores that the Minneapolis-based grocer owns and operates in Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Nevada, Southern California, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
Last week, various media reported that Albertsons LLC, a separate entity that owns and operates 217 stores in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, New Mexico, Texas and Utah, decided to remove self check-out lanes from its stores.
“Despite many incorrect reports, Albertsons stores owned by Supervalu will continue to operate self check-out lanes,” said Lilia Rodriguez, Albertsons spokeswoman. “Since this story broke last week, our customers have called us and we learned first-hand that they want and appreciate the convenience of self check-out lanes.”
Supervalu Inc. operates 4,294 stores including 1,114 traditional retail stores; 805 in-store pharmacies; 1,280 hard-discount stores, of which 899 are operated by licensee owners; and 1,900 independent stores serviced primarily by the company's traditional food distribution business.
