Supervalu Names New S.V.P./C.I.O.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Former Target executive Paul Singer has joined Supervalu here as s.v.p. and c.i.o. The appointment of Singer, who is joining the company in a new position, follows on the heels of similar previously announced senior-level executive appointments being made in recent weeks for the "new Supervalu."

With 27 years of retail experience in information technology, merchandising, and inventory and supply chain management, Singer served as Minneapolis-based Target Corp.'s c.i.o. from 2000 to 2005 and was a member of its executive committee. While at Target, Singer was responsible for IT strategy, planning, and operations.

He will assume his new role at Supervalu immediately and will report to Pamela Knous, e.v.p. and c.f.o. In a statement Knous said: "We are thrilled to have a person of Paul's stature and experience join Supervalu, as we begin the transformation of the company into a retail powerhouse following the recent acquisition of premier retail properties of Albertsons. I am confident that Paul's business acumen, technology expertise, and extensive retail experience will be invaluable as he combines the best of our existing organizations to build an industry-leading technology team that supports the strategic initiatives of the new Supervalu."

Supervalu operates more than 2,500 stores and provides distribution and related logistics support services to more than 5,000 grocery retail locations across the country.
