Supervalu Names Chairman of the Board

Supervalu Inc. has named retail veteran Gerald Storch chairman of the company’s Board of Directors, following the resignation of Robert Miller, who served in the role since March 2013.

Storch is currently chairman and CEO of Storch Advisors, a senior management advisory and consulting firm. His previous positions include chairman and CEO of Toys “R” Us, where he helped grow the company into a $13 billion global retailer, and vice chairman of Target, where he led the retailer’s e-commerce site, grocery business and the Target Financial Services credit card business. He currently serves on the Boards of Bristol Myers Squibb and Fanatics.

“We are thrilled to have Jerry Storch as our new non-executive chairman of the Supervalu Board of Directors,” said Supervalu Director Phil Francis. “Jerry’s tremendous experience in food and specialty retailing makes him especially well qualified for this role.” Francis went on to express his gratitude for Miller’s service, noting that he is “truly a giant in the retail grocery industry.”

Minneapolis-based Supervalu Inc. operates a network of 3,420 stores composed of 1,900 independent stores serviced primarily by the company’s food distribution business; 1,334 Save-A-Lot stores, of which 957 are operated by licensee owners; and 191 traditional retail grocery stores.
