Supervalu’s specialty pharmacy service has received accreditation status from the not-for-profit Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC). Supervalu Pharmacies Specialty Services is a single pharmacy providing expanded customer care and continuing services for those requiring complex treatments for such health conditions as osteoporosis, cancer and autoimmune diseases.
“Accreditation from the ACHC allows our specialty pharmacy an ability to pursue network access with both insurance payers and drug manufacturers, which ultimately, will help us better meet the needs of our customers,” said Steve McCann, VP of pharmacy at Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Supervalu. “Our customers will now be able to receive their specialty prescriptions in conjunction with the regular prescriptions they receive from their neighborhood Supervalu pharmacy location. This will provide more ease and convenience to what can be a complex process for many individuals.”
Demonstrating compliance with all nationally recognized standards, the accreditation benefits Supervalu’s 181 banner pharmacies, which now have access to the specialty pharmacy offering.
One of the largest grocery wholesalers and retailers in the United States, Supervalu serves customers through 2,289 stores, comprising 2,072 stores operated by wholesale customers serviced mainly by the company’s food distribution business, and 217 traditional retail grocery stores operated under five retail banners in six geographic regions.
