Supervalu Expanding and Upgrading Main DC
HOPKINS, Minn. -- Supervalu, Inc. is expanding and upgrading its 579,000-square-foot main distribution center here, with new logistics and material-handling technology for grocery storage and retrieval functions.
"The new technology will enable Supervalu to become more efficient," said the wholesaler in a statement. "The upgrade also presents strong opportunities for enhanced service to customers, and ensures continued competitive success for the company."
The project will take 18 to 24 months to complete, Supervalu estimated. During that time, the dry grocery operations will be moved to another location.
Although Supervalu said it anticipated some reduction in staff as a result of the upgrade, the company said it expects that normal attrition during the next 18 to 24 months will offset some of that anticipated reduction.
