Supervalu Donates $100K to Feeding America
Supervalu presented at $100,000 check to Feeding America during the Eden Prairie-based wholesaler’s 2016 National Expo. The money was raised by the independent retailers and consumer packaged goods companies that attended the event.
“All of the grocery retailers and companies involved in this effort know how important it is to give back to their communities,” said Mike Stigers, Supervalu EVP of wholesale.
The donation was presented to Bob Chatmas, COO of Second Harvest Heartland, a Twin Cities-based Feeding America Foodbank. The money will distributed throughout the communities in which Supervalu retailers operate through the national Feeding America operation, which has 200 member food banks in all 50 states, Washington, DC and Puerto Rico.
“For every $1 received, Feeding America is able to help provide 11 meals to people facing hunger,” said Brian Audette, Supervalu SVP of sales, merchandising and marketing. He also serves on the board of Second Harvest Heartland. “We are so grateful to the collective efforts of Supervalu and all of the independent grocery retailers and companies at the National Expo who helped make the donation possible.”
The donation was presented during a dinner at the Expo that concluded with a performance by singer, songwriter and record producer Andy Grammer, who has partnered with Feeding America to raise awareness for hunger relief as a member of its Entertainment Council.
