Supervalu Divests Another Pittsburgh Shop 'n Save

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh area retailer Tom Jamieson has acquired one of several remaining Shop 'n Save corporate stores put on the block here last fall by Supervalu Inc.

Jamieson, already one of the market's largest Shop 'n Save franchisees, purchased the corporate Shop 'n Save store in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh. After closing the store for several weeks, Jamieson plans to convert the space to include a Save-A-Lot store along with a smaller Shop 'n Save in what he said will be a concept test, similar to one of his most recent stores includes a new Shop 'n Save and Save-A-Lot that opened a few weeks ago in Uniontown, Pa.

Jamieson now operates 20 stores, 10 each in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, 12 of which operate under the Shop 'n Save banner.

In September, Minneapolis-based Supervalu revealed its plan to sell off 20 corporate locations in the Pittsburgh market to established franchisees. In January, the company sold two stores in Pittsburgh's northern suburbs to Kuhn's Quality Markets.

Supervalu has yet to reveal further plans for the remaining 15 regional locations.
