Stop & Shop/Giant Food C.E.O. to Retire
AMSTERDAM -- Ahold said yesterday that Marc Smith, c.e.o. of Ahold's Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover Arena, based in Quincy, Mass., will retire. The company said Smith will stay on for an indefinite period of time to allow for a smooth transition, and added that it has launched an internal and external search for Smith's successor.
Although the precise timing of his departure has yet to be determined, Ahold said the timeframe will most likely be several months, depending on the company's needs and how the transition progresses.
During the transition period, Smith will continue to manage the day-to-day operations of Stop & Shop and Giant. Additionally, Ahold c.e.o. and president Anders Moberg will take a direct role in managing the transition process, Ahold said.
