Stop & Shop Wrapping Up A&P Store Conversions
The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. LLC will complete its multimillion-dollar conversions of 25 former A&P stores in the metropolitan New York area with the grand opening of its final acquired location on Thursday, Nov. 19 in Mt. Kisco, N.Y. The renovation and rebranding all 25 stores took only six weeks and minimized disruptions for customers.
"We've nearly completed the conversion process of all 25 acquired A&P stores to Stop & Shop stores," affirmed Don Sussman, president of Stop & Shop New York Metro division, in Purchase, N.Y., who thanked "our entire team for their tremendous efforts to ensure a smooth transition just in time for all stores to be ready for Thanksgiving."
During the conversions, Stop & Shop has offered employment to more 3,000 former A&P associates, subsequently providing training and certification to its new workers.
Additionally, in honor of the grand openings, the Ahold USA banner made a total charitable contribution of $50,000 to 25 local nonprofit organizations aligned with the company's commitment to better the lives of children, aid hunger relief efforts and improve customers' health and wellness.
"The acquisition of the 25 A&P stores will expand our presence in existing markets and provide our customers with a new shopping experience," added Sussman.
Stop & Shop employs more than 59,000 associates and operates 403 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey.
