Stop & Shop Continues A&P Store Conversions

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. is continuing apace with the conversions of the 25 stores it purchased from the bankrupt Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., having entered a third wave of renovations on Thursday, Oct. 22. As with the two prior waves, the locations undergoing conversion will close for about seven days, although their in-store pharmacies and banks will stay open during the process.

The locations now being converted are in the New York City boroughs of The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens, as well as on New York's Long Island and in Kinnelon. All of the third-wave stores are expected to re-open on Oct. 30.

"Our store conversion team did a great job on opening the first wave of stores, and customers are very pleased with the results," affirmed Don Sussman, president of Purchase, N.Y.-based Stop & Shop New York Metro Division. "We can't wait to open the second wave of stores to our customers on Friday, Oct. 23 in Greenvale, Springfield Gardens and Bronx, N.Y., as well as South Orange, N.J."
