Stop & Shop Adopts New Supply Chain Visibility Tools

QUINCY, Mass. -- Stop & Shop Supermarkets here has implemented supply chain visibility tools from Dallas-based Blue Sky Logistics, Inc. to help the New England grocer better manage its supply chain processes and activities.

Blue Sky's Insight, a Web-based supply chain dashboard application, allows the end user to reduce unnecessary delays and inefficient use of resources by configuring a set of gauges and alerts that identify areas of the operation needing attention.

Stop & Shop said that due to growth, it needs to have improved controls over the supply chain, and wants to become more proactive in managing the events that occur when supplying products to its retail stores. The company said it sees substantial financial savings to be gained by managing its supply chain this way, but has been having trouble sorting through all the data to get to the pertinent information.

"Insight will have an immediate and substantial impact on our operations," said Joe Francis, manager of process and systems improvement at Stop & Shop's Supply Chain Strategy and Execution Group, in a statement. "Upon implementation of Insight, supervisors and managers of the operation will be able to spend more time actually managing the operation instead of mining for data or waiting until reports could be generated."

Francis said Stop & Shop intends to apply Insight beyond warehouse management systems, and across all corporate information systems.

Ahold-owned Stop & Shop operates 376 stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New Jersey, and New York and employs more than 58,000 associates.
