Stater Bros. Plans New Distribution Center

COLTON, Calif. - Stater Bros. Markets, the largest privately owned supermarket chain in southern California, on Friday said it plans to acquire and develop approximately 160 acres for a new distribution center and general offices.

Initially the distribution center will be 1,734,500 square feet. It will replace eight existing smaller distribution centers primarily located in and around Colton and Redlands, Calif., and approximately seven miles from the site of the new general offices and DC.

The new facility is scheduled to open in the summer of 2006 in celebration of Stater Bros.' 70th Anniversary. It will initially employ approximately 2,000.

"It's a boyhood dream to be able to make a significant contribution to the people who not only built Stater Bros. into one of America's most outstanding supermarket chains, but also to do something nice for our hometown area," said Stater Bros. chairman, president and c.e.o. Jack Brown.

"We look forward to continuing to serve not only our long-time customers in the Inland Empire, but also our new customers living in the six Southern California counties that we currently serve, as well as the future generations we will serve," Brown added.

Stater Bros. Markets currently operates 157 full-service supermarket locations, with five more under construction.
