Stater Bros. to Open New Corporate Office and DC

COLTON, Calif. -- Stater Bros. will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Feb. 23 to dedicate the site of its 2.5-million-square-foot corporate offices and distribution center in San Bernardino, Calif. This will be the largest "under-one-roof" distribution center in Southern California.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Stater Bros. corporate offices and distribution center will take place on the southeast corner of Tippecanoe Ave. and Harry Sheppard Blvd., part of the Stater Bros.' 160-acre site on the former Norton Air Force Base. Honored guests at the ceremony will include Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-Calif.) and San Bernardino mayor Judith Valles.

"The new Stater Bros. corporate offices and distribution center will help us to better serve our valued customers in six Southern California counties (San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, Los Angeles, San Diego and Kern) and prepare for future growth," said Jack H. Brown, chairman of the board, and c.e.o. of Stater Bros. Markets. "We are grateful for the support we have received from the city of San Bernardino, the Inland Valley Development Agency Board, and the San Bernardino International Airport Authority Commission. It's a boyhood dream to be able to make a significant contribution to the people who not only built Stater Bros. into one of America's most outstanding supermarket chains, but also to do something nice for our hometown area."

Initially the new Stater Bros. corporate offices and DC will be 2 million square feet, replacing eight existing smaller DCs located in and around Colton, Redlands, and Mira Loma, Calif. The new site is approximately seven miles from the existing corporate office complex in Colton.

The corporate offices are scheduled for completion in the summer of 2006, and the distribution center is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2006. This new facility will initially employ 2,000 employees (2,500 employees when completely built out) and have an annual payroll of $149 million.
