Stater Bros. Names Gil Salazar IT VP

Stater Bros. Markets has appointed Gil Salazar its VP of information technology. Salazar reports to President and CEO Pete Van Helden, who joined the retailer in January.

“We are pleased to welcome Gil to the Stater Bros. ‘family’ of employees,” Van Helden said. “His broad range of IT experience and leadership brings new opportunities [that] will allow Stater Bros. to meet the current and future needs of our customers, and all areas of the company.”

According to Stater Bros., Salazar brings more than 27 years of information technology experience to his new position. Prior to joining the retailer, he was director of IT services for Hyundai Capital America, and also held IT roles at Partners Consulting, AIG, Ford Motor Credit and ConAgra Foods Inc.

Salazar holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Liberty University, Stater Bros. noted. He also completed the Computer Information Systems Program at the United States Naval Technical Training Center, and served four years in the U.S. Navy during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Southern Watch. Additionally, Salazar is a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC) Executive Management Program and a member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association.

San Bernardino, Calif.-based Stater Bros., the largest privately owned supermarket chain in Southern California and the largest private employer in both San Bernardino and Riverside counties, operates 168 supermarkets and employs more than 18,000 associates.
