SpartanNash Raising Funds for Military Heroes
To help military service members and their families, and to pay tribute those who lost their lives while defending American freedoms, the SpartanNash Foundation, the charitable-giving arm of Grand Rapids, Mich.-based SpartanNash, will launch a company-wide retail fundraising campaign. All funds raised during the 12-day retail scan campaign, slated to run June 28-July 9, will be evenly split between the nonprofit organizations Give an Hour and Honor and Remember.
The campaign invites customers at any participating SpartanNash-owned retail store or fuel center across nine to donate $1, $5 or $10 at checkout.
“As the leading distributor of grocery products to U.S. military commissaries throughout the world, SpartanNash sees firsthand the sacrifices our servicemen and -women make to protect our freedoms every day,” said Meredith Gremel, VP of corporate affairs and communications, and the executive director of the SpartanNash Foundation. “SpartanNash and the SpartanNash Foundation are deeply committed to supporting our military heroes in the communities we serve, and through our partnership with Give an Hour and Honor and Remember, we can work with our store guests to raise awareness and funds for those who served and sacrificed.”
While ensuring that 100 percent of donations raised will go directly to the two nonprofits, SpartanNash underwrites the cost of the awareness-building and fundraising campaign, as well as contributing funds and encouraging its associates to volunteer with the foundation’s grant recipients.
Last year, the SpartanNash Foundation launched its first-ever company-wide fundraising campaign in support of its national partner, Honor and Remember, in addition to three regional community partners: Blue Star Mothers of America Inc., Disabled Veterans National Foundation and Fisher House Foundation. The 2016 campaign raise a total of $182,000.
So far this year, the foundation has held retail scan campaigns to support local Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity partners in the communities it serves. To date, almost $485,000 has been raised through funds contributed by customers, SpartanNash and the SpartanNash Foundation.
Give an Hour and Honor and Remember provide crucial mental health services and support to current members of the U.S. Armed Forces, military veterans, and families of those who died in service to our country.
