Spanish-language Version of AMI Avian Influenza Brochure Now Available

Washington -- The American Meat Institute (AMI) yesterday released a Spanish-language version of its consumer brochure on avian influenza (AI).

The brochure can be downloaded from the home page of http://www.poultrysafety.org and printed on color printers using ordinary 8 ½ x 11 paper, making reproduction and distribution simple and cost-effective. The English-language version of the brochure came out last month.

"We are pleased to provide tools to help retailers and foodservice operators reassure their Spanish-speaking customers about poultry safety," noted AMI s.v.p. of public affairs and professional development Janet Riley. "Our goal is to assure English and Spanish speakers alike that poultry remains a safe and healthy protein choice."

The brochure answers commonly asked consumer questions and responds to misconceptions about AI. Among the issues addressed in the brochure are what the United States is doing to prevent AI from entering the country, how U.S. poultry production differs from production elsewhere, and that ordinary safe handling practices will protect consumers in the extremely unlikely event that they are ever exposed to the virus.

Operators who could like to receive the brochure in a different format should contact AMI's Marie Moore at [email protected].
