Sobeys Names New E.V.P./Chief Development Officer

STELLARTON, N.S. - Canadian supermarket chain Sobeys, Inc. has tapped c.f.o. Glenn Hynes for the new position of e.v.p. and chief development officer.

Hynes, who became c.f.o. in June 2001, will take charge of Sobeys’ corporate development and secretarial functions, including real estate strategy, capital planning, and development, according to a company statement.

Bruce Terry succeeds Hynes as c.f.o. and e.v.p. Terry comes to Sobeys with a background in the packaged goods manufacturing, drug retailing, and oil and gas industries, as well as, most recently, experience in the financial services sector. He will assume responsibility for all finance, accounting and control, financial planning, investor relations, treasury, internal audit, security, and risk management functions.

Both Hynes and Terry will sit on the retailer’s executive leadership committee.

Sobeys owns or franchises over 1,300 stores in all 10 Canadian provinces under such banners as Sobeys, IGA Extra, IGA, and Price Chopper.
