Smith's Food & Drug to Install DVD Rental Kiosks
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- Smith's Food & Drug, a division of the Kroger Co., is installing fully automated DVD rental kiosks in locations throughout the western United States.
So Smith's has installed kiosks, provided by Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.-based redbox, in 27 locations throughout Las Vegas. By June, the partners expects to install kiosks in about 70 percent of Smith's units there and in Salt Lake City, and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
"Smith's is the first major outlet for redbox in Las Vegas, and our 24-hour store operations will provide total flexibility for customers," said Kenny Kimball, Smith's group v.p., operations. "Redbox offers one more reason for consumers to choose Smith's and get a little more from their shopping experience."
Each redbox DVD rental kiosk holds more than 500 DVDs, representing 50-60 of the newest movie releases, with new titles available every Tuesday. To order a video, consumers make their selections using a touch screen, swipe a valid credit or debit card and go. Customers can keep the DVD for as long as they'd like for $1 per night plus tax, and return their DVD to any redbox kiosk nationwide.
To promote the new service, Smith's is offering a promotion through April 15 in which shoppers of the retailer's Las Vegas stores receive a free, one-night movie rental.
Smith's operates a total of 130 stores in seven Western states, including 39 stores in Nevada.
