Sheetz to Offer Food Ordering At Fuel Islands

ATLANTA and ALTOONA, Pa. – In a bid to take its dynamic fresh food concept to the next level, convenience store operator Sheetz Inc. is extending self-service ordering outdoors with self-service kiosks at the fueling islands of all new stores as well as some existing units.

The move by Sheetz, which will utilize technology by Radiant Systems, Inc., is intended not only to improve service, but also to advance the company's image as a retail food brand.

The kiosks feature bright 15-inch durable touchscreens, weather-resistant enclosures, protected receipt printers, and a flexible design that allows Sheetz to incorporate custom branding signage. The kiosk is also designed to allow added features such as debit pin pads and magnetic stripe readers for credit, debit, loyalty, and gift card processing.

Sheetz said it conducted limited store tests over the past two years, before deciding to roll out the program. Radiant’s order-at-the-pole program will enable customers to order everything from specialty coffees to custom-made sandwiches and burgers while they fill up their tanks. The self-service kiosks use touchscreen systems that guide customers through a series of intuitive, automated steps to select their food order, customize it, and double check it for accuracy before submitting it to the kitchen staff.

"By offering food at the fuel island, we’re adding speed and convenience for our on-the-go customers, further differentiating our unique offering and delivering on our mission of total customer focus," said Stan Sheetz, president of Sheetz, Inc. "Also important is that Radiant Outdoor Kiosks emphasize the Sheetz food brand beyond the four walls of the store, bringing the message to customers who most need to see it--those who depend on Sheetz for gas, but not food."
