Shaw’s, Star Market Aid Boston

Shaw’s and Star Market are donating $100,000 to The One Fund Boston, which was launched by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino to raise money for the families most affected by the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings.

In addition, the two New England banners began an in-store donation campaign on April 22 enabling customers to contribute directly to The One Fund Boston. Shoppers can donate any amount at checkout in all 169 Shaw’s and Star Market locations, with all proceeds going directly to The One Fund Boston. Shaw’s and Star Market will match all donations up to an additional $100,000.

“As an organization that has been part of the New England and Boston communities for over 150 years, we understand how this tragedy has affected so many of our associates and customers,” said Shane Sampson, president, Shaw’s and Star Market. “We not only wanted to support the survivors and families of this terrible tragedy, but also wanted to provide customers a way to contribute as well.”

The in-store donation campaign will run through May 5. As reported earlier this week, Stop & Shop, which operates many stores in New England, and its parent company, Ahold USA, are also contributing to The One Fund.

Employing about 19,000 associates in five New England states, Shaw's and Star Market are part of Boise, Idaho-based AB Acquisition LLC, which also operates Acme, Albertsons and Jewel-Osco.
