Senior VP Moves Up at H-E-B

SAN ANTONIO - H-E-B here said yesterday that Steve Harper, s.v.p. of fresh merchandising, procurement, and product development, has been promoted to e.v.p. of food manufacturing, procurement, and merchandising. As part of his new responsibilities, Harper will be accountable for the perishable, grocery, and manufacturing departments.

"I am an advocate for our customers and will tailor our offerings to meet their needs," Harper said in a statement. "As I strive to better understand the diversity of our customers, I will help H-E-B continue its legacy of providing excellent service and quality products."

Harper, who began his grocery career at age 14 as an apprentice meat cutter, joined H-E-B in 1993 as v.p. of meat and seafood. Most recently, he served as s.v.p. of fresh merchandising, procurement, and product development for meat, seafood, bakery, deli, produce, floral and own brand/fresh.

"With 44 years of food retailing experience, Steve brings a great passion for food and retailing to all levels of the organization," said Bob Loeffler, H-E-B's c.e.o. "I look forward to his added contributions in H-E-B manufacturing and grocery, as well as leading our total food retailing effort."

Founded in Kerrville, Texas in 1905, H-E-B has more than 300 stores in Texas and Northern Mexico with more than 60,000 employees. H-E-B is the largest privately held company in Texas. The company is also one of the largest food chains in the United States with sales nearing $11 billion.
