Seattle Supermarket Contract Approved
SEATTLE – Following a four-month effort, the United Food & Commercial Workers union and grocery chains in the Seattle metropolitan area have approved a three-year contract, accepting health care payments but avoiding a two-tier pay plan sought by employers.
Of the 10 contracts voted on Saturday at the Key Arena, all passed with a combined total of 83 percent. Press reports named Safeway, Albertsons, QFC, and Fred Meyer as the chains in the settlement.
