Schnucks Readies for South City Grand Re-Opening

Customers and teammates of Schnucks’ South City store in St. Louis are gearing up to celebrate the completion of the store’s extensive remodel with a grand reopening set for Friday, Dec. 6.

The 74,000-square-foot store – which originally opened in 1990 and was last remodeled in 2000 – will host storewide sampling throughout the weekend, as well as an “Explore the Store” sweepstakes in which customers can register to win great prizes.

“Investing in this store community is one of the best ways to celebrate our company’s 75th anniversary year in 2014,” said Scott Schnuck, chairman and CEO of the regional retailer. “Schnucks started as a 1,000-square-foot corner confectionery in north St. Louis in 1939. Today, we are proud to serve St. Louis City customers at nine locations.”

Schnucks South City Store Manager Nick Collora said the entire store has been renovated from floor to ceiling. “Our customers and teammates are raving about the new look and new shopping experience,” Collora explained. “We started with new shelving and refrigeration, and updated the lighting and décor throughout the store. Our dairy, frozen foods and liquor departments were expanded to allow for more product variety.”

On the fresh side, he continued, “We’ve expanded the food bar, deli and seafood department, which includes a brand- new sushi bar and daily fish fry. The floral department has been upgraded and relocated, while the bakery now includes muffin and bulk cookie carts. We have also upgraded and reconfigured the pharmacy and service center.”

Schnuck Markets Inc. operates 100 stores and 95 in-store pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa.
