Schnucks Promotes Mittendorf, Rhodes To New Posts

ST. LOUIS -- Schnuck Markets, Inc. here promoted Christine Mittendorf, as director of continuous improvement, and elevated Janice Rhodes to v.p. of human resources.

Reporting to Todd Schnuck, e.v.p., Mittendorf, 36, will be responsible for internal audit, industrial engineering and continuous improvement companywide. She joined Schnuck Markets as director of internal audit in 2002, and guided a team of six professionals in efforts to improve processes, identify risks and help the organization achieve its objectives. In August of 2004, she was tapped to lead a new initiative called the continuous improvement process.

Much like the auditing function at Schnucks, the continuous improvement process encourages the on-going development of proficiencies in process enhancement and goal achievement while better tracking and managing company, human and product resources.

In her new HR post, Rhodes, 49, succeeds William Jones, who is retiring after 27 years of service. Also reporting to Todd Schnuck, Rhodes will have responsibility for all human resources divisions including labor relations, benefits, organizational development, employment and compliance.

Rhodes joined Schnucks in 1978 as a cashier at its Kirkwood store. She was later promoted into the training department and from there gained experience through positions in nearly every department of human resources. Her most recent job was in a transitional position as director of human resources.

In her new capacity, Rhodes will join the company's executive planning group and will be in a position to provide input into the decisions that will guide Schnucks and 15,700 associates in more than 100 stores. In accordance with Schnucks' mission statement, Rhodes and her teams will continue to place a strong emphasis on bringing new talent into the company and developing people for careers in the industry.

Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 102 stores (including five Logli stores) and 99 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Mississippi and Iowa.
