Save Mart Chairman Bob Piccinini Dies

Robert "Bob" Piccinini, chairman of Save Mart Supermarkets, died Tuesday morning at his home in Modesto, Calif. He was 73.

Piccinini stepped down as CEO of Save Mart in September 2014, having celebrated his 50th anniversary with the company the previous summer.

At that time, he created a joint partnership to lead company, consisting of Greg Hill, co-president and CFO; Steve Junqueiro, co-president and COO; and Nicole Pesco, co-president and chief strategy and branding officer.

Piccinini purchased Save Mart from the Piccinini and Tocco families in 1985 after working his way through the ranks – box boy, truck driver, store manager, VP of real estate and later president/CEO. He's credited with taking Save Mart from a homegrown, Central Valley chain to the regional competitor it is today.

Piccinini is survived by two daughters and two sons.
