Sam's Club Offers Small Business Insurance

BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Sam's Club has begun selling health insurance for small businesses in Missouri and nine other states, reports the Kansas City Business Journal.

The company began offering the insurance through several carriers in mid-February, a company spokesman was quoted as saying, adding that Kansas City and St. Louis are among the company's primary markets for the insurance.

Through an affiliation with insurance broker Answer Financial Inc., Sam's Club initially will offer the insurance to its members in Missouri, Illinois, California, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, and Wisconsin. The company intends to offer the small business insurance in every state, according to the spokesman.

In an information release, Sam's says its preferred provider organization plans are aimed at companies with fewer than 100 employees and offer a range of deductibles, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket limits. Sam's has offered a variety of insurance products for individuals for several years and will administer the health insurance from its Bentonville, Ark., headquarters.
