Sam's Club Hosts Health and Wellness Demos

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Over the weekend, Sam's Club here hosted the first of two health and wellness demonstrations at its clubs for the New Year. It will stage a rounf of second demonstrations Jan. 12.

"Millions of Americans have a heightened awareness of their health and wellness due to increasing reports of obesity, heart disease, diabetes and more," noted Mike Pitzl, director of pharmacy operations at Sam's Club, a division of Wal-Mart, in a statement. "Sam's Club is pleased to give local residents in the communities we serve an opportunity to improve their health through these valuable and free services."

Sam's Club pharmacies are open to the public, and membership is not required to inquire or fill a prescription.

During the in-Club health and wellness events, Sam's Club said it would provide both members and guests with complimentary samples and demonstrations on setting realistic resolutions and goals for improving their health. These demonstrations will highlight key products and various healthy food samples as well as copies of Resolution to Results Magazine, containing healthy recipes and advice on keeping New Year's Resolutions. A 10 percent service fee may apply to non-member purchases, Sam's Club said.

The event is sponsored by Sam's Club and suppliers One A Day, Abbott Nutrition, Quaker, The Dannon Company, Gatorade, Tropicana, Campbell Soup Company, Unilever, Nestle Waters North America, Tylenol Extra Strength, Viactiv Calcium Chews, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare, and Wyeth.
