Roundy's to Shutter 2 Milwaukee Pick 'n Saves

Roundy’s is closing two Pick ‘n Save stores in suburban Milwaukee on June 16, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has reported.

The stores, located in New Berlin and Pewaukee, are closing due to their inability to meet necessary long-term financial performance goals, company spokesman James Hyland told the paper. Both are near existing Pick ‘n Save stores, where employees will be offered the opportunity to work after their locations close.

When it purchased Roundy’s in 2015, the Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. was almost certain to shutter underperforming locations in territories overlapping other stores in the Milwaukee area, experts told the Journal Sentinel. Pick ‘n Save, although Wisconsin’s market share leader, has come under strong competition with new brands entering the region, especially in Milwaukee.

The news follows Kroger’s announcement last December that it plans to invest $50 million in renovating its Milwaukee-area Pick ‘n Save stores this year, as well as expand its Metro Market urban format, which operates in the Milwaukee and Madison, Wis., areas.
