Roundy's Produce Exec Wins Tater Contest

MILWAUKEE - Sue Behrens, a produce category manager at Roundy's, based here, was the grand prize winner of the Idaho Potato Commission's "Gilligan's Island" trivia contest, which the commodity board hosted at its booth at the Produce Marketing Association's convention in Anaheim, Calif. in October.

As the grand prize winner, Behrens and three guests will travel to Idaho next August to attend SpudFest 2005, a four-day celebration showcasing family films and musical talent, including shorts and animations. While at SpudFest, Behrens and her guests will receive VIP treatment, including a special breakfast with the local film festival's founder, Dawn Wells, the actress who played Mary Ann on the original "Gilligan's Island" hit TV show.

Behrens was chosen the winner of the IPC's contest for demonstrating her "Gilligan's Island" trivia prowess, with correct answers to such questions as the name of the Skipper's boat (The Minnow), and which famous recipe of Mary Ann's the castaways gobbled up (coconut cream pie). The show's stars, including Wells, Bob Denver (Gilligan), and Russell Johnson (the Professor) were on hand at the IPC's booth to witness Behrens' mastery of knowledge concerning the infamous sitcom.

"We wanted to give the winner a first-class experience in Idaho," said Seth Pemsler, IPC's v.p. of retail, of the grand prize. "What better way to enjoy this beautiful part of the country than attending a fun-filled film festival? Dawn Wells is an avid home chef, lives in Idaho potato country and has a passion for the world's best-tasting spuds. She even used the word 'spud' when naming her film festival. And, as SpudFest grows in popularity, Idaho's best-loved potato will remain top of mind for consumers."

This is the second SpudFest for which IPC will serve as a major sponsor.
