Roche Bros. Installs Defibrillators in All Stores
WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. -- As a way to safeguard its customers and employees against sudden cardiac arrest, Roche Bros. Supermarkets has placed automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in all 17 of its Roche Bros. and Sudbury Farms stores, as well as its corporate office here.
Additionally, the New England grocer has also trained more than 200 employees in CPR and AED usage to act as first responders in case of such an emergency. Hyde Park, Mass.-based Life Support Systems provided the training, while the defibrillators are from Chelmsford, Mass.-based ZOLL.
"SCA strikes people of all ages, and usually without warning," noted Roche Bros. president and c.o.o. Ed Roche in a statement. "We learned about successful AED programs at other companies, and we decided to be proactive and implement our own program as quickly as possible. We chose AED Plus because of its ability to help rescuers with CPR performance, which, along with defibrillation, is a critical part of any rescue."
Merrilee Sweet, v.p. communications for the American Heart Association, said, "Research shows that the combination of effective CPR and rapid defibrillation is a proven formula for increasing survival for out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest. [Roche Bros.'] measures will help ensure that anyone who suffers a sudden cardiac arrest at one of their stores will receive care as quickly as possible and will be given the best chance for survival."
Roche Bros. operates 14 Roche Bros. and three Sudbury Farms locations in the Greater Boston and Cape Cod area.
